The Annual Digital Storytelling Contest

Coming to California is a digital storytelling contest for high school students sponsored by KQED. These autobiographical digital stories tell us how and why students or their families migrated to California. This year we have expanded the contest theme to include the myths of California and of being Californian.

Through the contest, students become producers of media, not just consumers, building an understanding of media literacy through authentic learning. The contest culminates in an celebration and awards ceremony at KQED, honoring the efforts of the participants and celebrating the winning pieces. Winning pieces also have the opportunity to be posted on the website and available for downloading. This year we hope to be able to braodcast some of the stories on our digital channel.

This is an annual contest, with a deadline in April. Check back for exact dates. Contest rules, judging rubric, and official entry form can be downloaded or viewed here.
